Six-day festival with 25 artists across a multitude of landscapes

Performing Landscapes brings together artists who explore how art can bring us closer to the teeming world of life we are part of – in nature, in the landscapes, and within ourselves.

A collective action with total freedom for each artist to make us feel more, sense deeper, and think in new ways.

We will feel the earth, hear the landscape, and sense our invisible roots. We will walk, rest, sing, draw, play, shape cities, and explore together – both in the landscapes of Refshaleøen and in our own inner landscapes.

All works take their starting point in the world as it is now and are created specifically for the site. Some works are finished, while in others we take part in the artist’s creative process.

There are performances, workshops, readings, rituals, sound works… even a musical, an opera, and a surprising take on puppet theatre.

Join us and let yourself be immersed in this cornucopia of sensory, engaging, intimate, and seductive experiences – a think tank as our future is being shaped and we search for utopias.

PROGRAMME
Program Performing Landscapes København 2026Peter Vadim Performing LandscapesPRACTICAL INFO

Duration: You decide whether to join for one hour, all days, or anything in between. You can experience one, two, or three works in a single day. We recommend joining as much as possible, as you’ll get the most out of experiencing a variety of formats.

Registration: Participation is free. However, we kindly ask that you only sign up once you’re sure you can and want to attend, so more people have the chance to take part. After registration, you will receive a formula to sign up for individual performances (it can take some days before you receive it).

Catering: Choose between a free ticket or a ticket costing 100 DKK per day, which helps cover expenses for coffee/tea, snacks, and (vegan) dinner. Dinner is the central gathering point, where you can meet the artists and digest and discuss the day’s experiences.

Places: The works take place at different locations around Refshaleøen. We always meet at Refshale Anneks before heading out. Most activities take place outdoors.

Participation: Most works invite for active participation – at your own pace and comfort level. If you have any specific needs or challenges, please write to us at info@kit.dk, and we’ll help tailor a programme that suits you.

Maria Viftrup Performing LandscapesABOUT PERFORMING LANDSCAPES

Performing Landscapes was first held in Copenhagen in 2023 by Metropolis – Copenhagen International Theatre and is now an annual festival. From 2025, the festival has expanded with a national programme.

Performing Landscapes brings together 40 artists working with nature, landscape, and ecology at a time when the climate and biodiversity crises call for new ways of being in the world.

Through art, they explore how to open up new experiences of – and perspectives on – how we can live more sustainably and in balanced coexistence with our surroundings.

In Copenhagen, Refshaleøen forms the setting for the works. With urban development on the horizon, the art helps to make the site’s unique qualities and possibilities tangible to the senses. After 30 years of slow and careful site maturation, architects’ visions for life here are being launched. The artists do not draw more lines, but instead respond by opening our senses and minds.
