AVA / ASTRID KJÆR – Symbiotic
Come close – into the finest details – when life emerges and disappears again.
The animation company AVA invites us into a speculative microworld where humans and nature merge – a sensory landscape in which the boundaries between the man-made and the natural begin to dissolve.
We often think of humans and nature as opposites: the industrialised human versus the original nature. Human intervention disrupting the natural. But what happens if humans surrender and allow themselves to be absorbed by nature?
In animation performances, it is usually the human who brings figures and materials to life. But can nature also animate the human? Experience a sensory experiment where what we know as puppet theatre takes on new meaning, as the human steps back and lets something else take over.
ABOUT AVA / ASTRID KJÆR
AVA is an interdisciplinary, performative collaboration with animation theatre at its core. They invite the audience to immerse themselves in abstract, emotional landscapes where all elements hold equal value: space, light, words, knowledge, sound, and bodies – human as well as other kinds. Because everything carries an inherent life force.
The world is not linear and cannot be fully defined, and therefore AVA creates space for intuitive, sensory experiences – free from predefined interpretations.
Astrid Kjær is trained as a puppeteer from the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch in Berlin. Since then, she has worked as a performer, director, teacher, and consultant. Astrid is the artistic director of AVA and performs in Symbiotic.
