Welcome to Performing Landscapes Copenhagen – art, landscape, and people in an ecological drama.
Over two weekends at Refshaleøen, 30 artists unfold an extraordinary program featuring 30 works that explore the role and potential of art in a time of acute ecological crisis. One group of 15 artists performs May 9–11, and another group of 15 different artists performs May 16–18.
The artists invite us to experience performances, rituals, workshops, walks, and more. What they have in common is an exploration of the relationship between art, nature, landscape, and people, making us part of their investigations.
The raw industrial backdrop of Refshaleøen, nature’s rewilding, and the view of massive urban development create the perfect setting for a boundary-pushing performance program.
We have invited a collective of eco-conscious artists who work through sensing, walking, resting, connecting, resonating, and creating communities focused on the relationship between the human and the more-than-human.
These works allow us to feel, through our own bodies, how we might be present in the world in new ways—how we can connect, and how art can help open us to new experiences and perspectives.
How can we live and create more sustainably, and in mutual harmony and connection with our surroundings? None of us have the answers—yet. But we hope you’ll be curious and explore with us, perhaps bringing us all one step closer in the right direction.
This program is for anyone interested in art, nature, and climate.
After Performing Landscapes Copenhagen, Performing Landscapes will travel across Denmark over the next three years. Info and program updates will be available at www.metropolis.dk.
