A walk through a place in translation

Two performers move towards one another from opposite ends of a route. The audience is divided into two groups, each following a performer.

It is dawn or dusk. A time of day when the rhythms of light and darkness exist side by side, as something begins and something ends.

Along the way, what they pass is translated into movement and voice. A slope. Wind. Birds. Concrete. Trees. What is already there becomes choreography and song – a composition emerging in the encounter between body, place, and perception.

Two paths move towards one another. They meet. Movement and voice intertwine. Something takes shape before dissolving again. The performers part, and the audience chooses which path to follow next.

TRANSLATED explores how a place comes into being through perception and attention, while movement and voice become tools for listening, translating, and creating relation.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS & KINISI

KINISI creates choreographic works that explore the body as a site of perception, relation, and knowledge. Through dance and choreography, the company develops situations in which lived experience becomes artistic material, and movement serves as a way of investigating how we create meaning, forge relationships, and understand the world.

Each work develops its own internal logic, shaping not only its aesthetic and format but also its relationship with the audience. Performances, teaching, and methodology emerge from the same choreographic practice, continuously informing and enriching one another.

KINISI is led by TIM MATIAKIS, a Swedish-Greek choreographer based in Denmark. He is a former soloist with The Royal Ballet, The Royal Danish Ballet, and Royal Swedish Ballet. From 2012 to 2021, he served as artistic director of Corpus, the experimental contemporary dance company of The Royal Danish Theatre. His choreographic works have been created in collaboration with a wide range of artists and institutions in Denmark and internationally.

BRITTANIE BROWN (USA/SWEDEN) is a freelance dancer, DJ and curator based in Malmö, Sweden. A Juilliard B.F.A. graduate and former U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, she has performed works by Alexander Ekman, William Forsythe, Ohad Naharin, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Jefta van Dinther. Her company work includes GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, Skånes Dansteater, Norrdans and Company XIV. She regularly collaborates across dance, music, theatre and visual art.
