METROPOLIS TO PRODUCE NEW SHOWCASE FOR PERFORMANCE ART – PLATFORMNORD 2027

The Danish Arts Foundation’s Committee for the Performing Arts has selected Metropolis to produce the new international showcase for Nordic performance art, which the committee has initiated.

COMMITTEE LEADER OF THE COMMITTEE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, GITTA MALLING, SAYS ABOUT THE CHOICE OF METROPOLIS:

“We have initiated this new project because we want to create more opportunities and visibility for Danish performance art. We believe that in Denmark we have innovative and exciting artists who work within this field, and who are already experiencing great interest from abroad. With the new platform we hope to be able to stimulate that interest.

It has been important to us that the new platform was Nordic, as we can create stronger and more sustainable platforms, especially in an international context, if we work together across the Nordic countries.

It has also been important to us that the Danish producer of the platform was interested in collaborating with a wide range of actors and institutions in Denmark, as it is our intention that the effort should benefit the entire field.

We believe that by choosing Metropolis, we have found an actor who, with its extensive experience from international projects, extensive network and deep knowledge of performance art, will be able to lift this great task. We are therefore very much looking forward to following the development and to the first edition of PERFORMNORD in Denmark in 2027.”

METROPOLIS HAS NAMED THE NEW SHOWCASE PERFORMNORD, AND METROPOLIS ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, TREVOR DAVIES, COMMENTS ON THE INITIATIVE:

“The distinctive feature of performance art is that it is always current and has always had its finger on the pulse. In recent years, the art form has received renewed focus, as art has become more socially engaged, more activist and more cross-aesthetic.

In a time when the agenda is marked by serious issues and a clear ecological awareness, Nordic performance art is helping to show new paths.

Since performance artists often work outside institutions, it is important that this unifying, Nordic platform is created, where the international art world can encounter a hyper-current art form that is constantly renewing itself.

We are very grateful to be appointed as the organiser of this important reinforcement of the free performance art, which has been the core of our work for many years. We look forward to collaborate with other Danish and Nordic actors who, like us, are passionate about developing, disseminating and strengthening performance art.”

Metropolis is now starting to build working groups with both Danish and Nordic partners. In 2026, there will be an open call at the Nordic level for the showcase.
