Art moves into the light rail
For three weeks, the light rail will become a lively artistic meeting place as 12 artists invite passengers into their creative worlds.
Dance, music, circus, visual art, literature and performance will become part of the journey as the artists explore the light rail, the landscape and the people moving through it.
From 7–17 September, the artists will use the light rail as an open studio, observing, engaging with passengers and experimenting with ideas and materials along the way. You might encounter the artists by chance during your journey.
From 18–27 September, the artists’ work will unfold in a public programme of artistic interventions and encounters on board the light rail – and you are invited to join. The programme will be available here from mid September.
For a while, the everyday journey becomes something more: a space for curiosity, presence and connection, where art leaves its mark on both the journey and the landscape we move through.

Direction: Departures are from Gladsaxe Rådhus towards Ishøj. If (nord) is written, the direction is Lundtofte.
Duration: All artists are onboard for three hours – you can follow them as long as you wish.

ARTISTS
Julie Schmidt Andreasen
Through movement, Julie Schmidt Andreasen explores the directions we take in life. She travels with a sign that everyone is invited to write on, using the words and messages as inspiration for her dance along the way. During her journey, the sign is installed in the landscape and on the light rail, drawing attention to where we come from, what we are moving through, and where we are headed.
Sunniva Byvard
Circus artist Sunniva Byvard creates small pockets of wonder that make us look up because something suddenly seems strange, unexpected or impossible. Through balance, acrobatics, object manipulation and magic, she explores how subtle performative actions can spark our attention and curiosity.
Live Art Denmark
Where can you get the best curry wurst along the Ishøj–Lundtofte line? Live Art Denmark transforms the light rail into Berlin’s M1 tram line. The art conductor offers insider tips and hands out a guide to the highlights along the route, inviting passengers to continue the journey of discovery on their own.
Katrine Grarup Elbo
How does the same route sound at different times of day? Katrine Grarup Elbo collects sounds from and around the light rail and turns them into a live, ever-changing soundscape. On board the light rail, she mixes the sounds of the journey as it unfolds: a pulsing morning rhythm, a shared afternoon meditation or a festive evening atmosphere.
Jakob Fälling
Can you enjoy the view from the light rail? How to explore the landscape unfolding along the route from Lyngby to Ishøj? The light rail’s vast windows become a canvas for Jakob Fälling’s landscape drawings as he uses rolls of brightly coloured tape to explore the landscapes passing by outside.
Janus Kodal
Light rail poems are written in time with the movement of the train. Each stretch between two stations becomes a single line. As the light rail travels, Janus Kodal gathers words and phrases from conversations, overheard remarks, observations and encounters with passengers. Whenever the train stops, the next line of the poem is written on the window.
Linh Le
Join Linh Le on a journey to find our way home to nature. Wearing masks inspired by wild species, she might appear as a butterfly one day, a flower the next, or a bat the day after. Representing species that have lost their way onto the light rail, Linh encounters passengers along the route and uses the senses of the species to explore and map the surrounding landscape.
Annika B. Lewis
A flamboyant conductor steps into the carriage. Her colourful floral costume catches the eye as she slowly moves through the train in a poetic dance, accompanied by a barely audible hymn of heartbeat, birdsong and voice. ATMOSPHERE is a poetic and humorous performance that plays with the rhythm and pulse of the journey.
Jenny Major
Delicate paper cranes float and dance beneath the ceiling. Perhaps you’ll learn how to fold one yourself. Perhaps you’ll be given one to take with you and pass on to someone. Or perhaps you’ll encounter a dance inspired by the cranes’ movements and their journey through the light rail.
Randi Pontoppidan
Using the light rail’s own sounds and the human voice as her materials, Randi Pontoppidan creates a living sound work in motion. Equipped with a portable speaker, microphone and loop pedal, she sings her way between platforms, carriages and passengers, transforming the sounds around her into beats and compositions created in the moment.
Jørgen Teller
Musician and performance artist Jørgen Teller works with shifting sounds, actions and chance encounters. Each day on the light rail becomes a new experience created in the moment, as Jørgen reflects on and interacts with passengers using reflective foil, microphones, speakers, scented plants and crunchy snacks.
Charlotte Østergaard
The knitted masks take shape in response to the landscape passing by and the fleeting encounters between people. Charlotte Østergaard becomes the Craftswoman, observing movement, rhythms and relationships. Her handwork becomes a way of writing without words – a slow notation in yarn.
