METROPOLIS INVITES 50 PARTICIPANTS FOR AN INTENSE DANCE AND MOVEMENT WORKSHOP PERFORMANCE WITH \u00a0RENOWNED DANCER\/CHOREOGRAPHER BORIS CHARMATZ<\/strong><\/p>\n

Open for all with or without dance experience. From age 16+.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The workshop-performance Lev\u00e9e<\/em> is part of DANCEGROUND – a line-up of Charmatz’ works<\/strong><\/p>\n

Boris Charmatz transmits the 25 movements of his piece Lev\u00e9e des conflits<\/em> to a group of 50 participants preceeding the collective interpretation on Ofelia Plads.<\/p>\n

Boris Charmatz is known for taking dance out of the traditional theatre space and making it accessible to all kinds of people and bodies.<\/p>\n

During a three-day workshop of three hours per day, Magali Caillet Gajan, choreographic assistant of Charmatz, and dancer Filipe Louren\u00e7o teach the movements that will be learned by everyone. As the title of the piece suggests – Lev\u00e9e des conflits (suspension of conflicts<\/em>) – the choreography focuses on the collective body, a living matter in which each body is part of a larger whole. The bodies attempt to construct a mirage. It builds up, dissolves, gathers again, intensifies, accumulates, forms a core, draws lines\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201dWith\u00a0Lev\u00e9e des conflits Boris Charmatz invents a \u201cdance hole\u201d that absorbs the gaze. A palindrome-dance, to be read in all directions. A choreographic canon, looking for the image of a utopia.\u201d<\/em> – Gilles Amalvi, dance critic<\/p>\n

The final presentation takes the form of an open workshop, where the audience is invited to dive into the work and where, together with the company\u2019s dancers, you create a shared dance experience with the public.<\/p>\n

\"BorisBoris Charmatz<\/strong> is an internationally acclaimed French choreographer known for bringing dance into new contexts in order to reach new bodies and audiences, allowing the joy of movement to spread ever further. He has created works for renowned venues and institutions such as\u00a0Museum of Modern Art\u00a0in New York,\u00a0Festival d’Avignon and Festival d\u2019Automne in France, and\u00a0Tate Modern in London, and most recently served as director of the iconic company\u00a0Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. www.borischarmatz.org<\/a><\/p>\n

This year, Metropolis focuses on Boris Charmatz, who is presented for the first time in Copenhagen. As an expert of collective forms that blend genres, he has conceived DANCEGROUND as a performative experiment under the open sky. An invitation to dance outdoors, whatever the weather. Alternating between participatory moments and performances, it crosses genres and eras from Boris Charmatz\u2019s repertoire via William Forsythe, Charlie Chaplin, Carlotta Ikeda & Ko Murobushi to Philippe Quesne\u2019s iconic mole DJ\u2019s.<\/p>\n

\nBoris Charmatz and Metropolis are looking for 50 participants of all ages (16+), genders and backgrounds. No stage or dance experience is required. All bodies are welcome.<\/s><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\nThe workshop will take place indoors at a central location in Copenhagen.
\nThe dress rehearsal and workshop performances will be at\u00a0<\/span>Ofelia Plads<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>by the water in front of\u00a0<\/span>Skuespilhuset<\/span>.<\/p>\n

\nFor participants living outside Copenhagen, public transportation costs can be covered.<\/p>\n
